On a Saturday afternoon, I received an exciting call that baby Riley was on his way. I rushed home from weekend sports to drop off the hubby and kids and continued my way the home of Rod and Kayla. I was greeted by the lovely Alyssa from Cherish Birth, an excited yet chilled Rod and a determined mumma, Kayla.
Alyssa is an epic local Illawarra Doula, she provided Kayla every ounce of herself and advocated for them. Their home was the first stop on this journey, while Kayla laboured and Alyssa supported, Rod being a professional musican ensured that we had the best playlist for the birth of Riley. We had a wonderful surprise upon arrival at the hospital, two midwifes on their way home were super sweet and helped us to the birthing unit and commandeered us our very own private elevator.
Water was her friend and her happy place, here the bath was so therapeutic and Kayla really benefited from her calm birth classes. Rod massaged her aches away, poured water over her tummy and had the best country chill playlist. and was the anchor she needed. In the wee hours of Sunday morning, Riley was born. A healthy 9 pound 13 ounce bub, with 10 little fingers and 10 little toes.
A big thank you to Alyssa for all of the support she gave to Rod and Kayla.
And a HUGE thank you to you, Rod and Kayla, for entrusting me with documenting this moment in time for you both.
Congratulations again and enjoy Mr Riley.
